My Perfect Tacoma Day
Every May I fall in love with this city all over again. The sun starts setting late, the flowers in my neighborhood are unmatched, and it’s warm enough to wear shorts. It’s the time of year where everything just feels easier. You want to be outside more, you say yes to plans, and a simple day can turn into a really good one. This is what my perfect Tacoma day looks like:
Morning Coffee at Lander Coffee
I’m starting the day with coffee at Lander Coffee. It’s one of those places that just feels good to be in, with great coffee, a relaxed atmosphere, and usually a familiar face or two. It’s the kind of spot where you can ease into your morning, whether you’re catching up on a few emails or just sitting for a minute before the day gets going.
Workout at Vie Athletics
From there, I’m heading to Vie Athletics for a workout. I love having a place that pushes me physically but also feels like a community, and it always sets the tone for the rest of the day while giving me that reset before diving into work or plans.
Pickleball with Friends
Late morning or early afternoon usually turns into something social, and lately that’s been pickleball. It’s easy, fun, and just competitive enough, but more than anything, it’s a chance to be outside and spend time with friends without overcomplicating it.
Lunch at Cook’s Tavern
After that, it’s time for lunch at Cook’s Tavern. It’s one of my go to spots in Tacoma, and the rotating menu keeps things interesting while still being consistently good. It’s casual enough for a quick lunch but also a place where you can sit and actually enjoy your meal.
Beach Walk at Titlow Beach
To wrap up the day, I’m heading to Titlow Beach. There’s something about being near the water that resets everything, and whether it’s a longer walk or just a quick stop to watch the sunset, it’s the perfect way to slow down and take in where you are.
Dinner at Wooden City
Ending the day at Wooden City just feels right. They recently opened a new location on Broadway with about twice as much seating, which is a great update, but it’s still popular for a reason. I recommend making a reservation if you can and being prepared to park a little farther away. The food is consistently good, the atmosphere feels lively without being overwhelming, and it’s one of those places that always feels like a solid choice.
Why Tacoma Just Works
Days like this are exactly why I love living in Tacoma. You can move your body, eat really well, spend time with people you care about, and be by the water, all without driving far or overthinking it. It’s simple, but it’s a really good kind of simple.
